CI Nelka to represent SL as Boxing referee at Olympic Games for the first time in history



  • She represented Sri Lanka Police in boxing tournaments from 2001 to 2006 and has won many awards

Opening a new chapter in the history of Sri Lanka, for the first time, a Sri Lankan woman has been selected as a Boxing Referee and judge for the 2020 Olympic Games. 

T. Nelka Shiromala, a Woman Chief Inspector of the Sri Lanka Police, will represent the country at the 2020 Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo, Japan. 


Educated at Rippon Girls’ College, Galle, she joined the Sri Lanka police in 1997 as an Apprentice Sub-Inspector and in 2001 became the first female Police Boxer to represent the Police Sports Club at a national tournament. 
She also represented Sri Lanka Police in boxing tournaments from 2001 to 2006 and has won many awards. 
Chief Inspector Shiromala has officiated at the World Men’s Boxing Championships, World Women’s Boxing Championships and the Junior Women’s and Men’s World Boxing Championships.
