CID ordered to surrender mobile phone taken illegally to Court

CID ordered to surrender the mobile phone illegally taken  by them from the son of Consumer rights activist and advocator in court  on March 10.   Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala ordered CID to  surrender the mobile phone that was illegally and unlawfully taken by  the CI D from the custody of consumer rights activist and advocator  Asela Sampath’s son Chamindu Dinendra in court on March 10.  
At the onset of inquiry, Senior Counsel Thusritha Weeragoda  pleaded that the CID had arrested the consumer rights activist who is  also the organiser of the National Movement for People’s Rights Protection  for making a controversial statement over COVID-19 vaccine during a  media briefing at Pannipitiya in June.  
The Counsel further said that during the arrest the  detectives had forcibly taken the mobile phone of Mr. Sampath’s son  and had not returned it to the owner.  
The detective who was present for the case sought time to get advice from the OIC.   Magistrate Ragala declined the request and ordered the CID to surrender the mobile phone in court on March 10.
