While stating that the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) is in a crisis because of a dispute between the Council Members and the Municipal Commissioner, UNP MP Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday requested the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to intervene to resolve the problem.

“There is a crisis in the CMC as a dispute has arisen between the Municipal Commissioner and the council members. Distribution of providing relief to city dwellers who have been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic had come to a standstill as a result of it. Therefore, I request Prime Minister Rajapaksa to summon the Mayor, members of the Municipal Council and the Commissioner and resolve the issue through dialogue.

The dispute between the Municipal Commissioner and the Council members led to protests by the council members and the officers attached to the Municipal Council.
