COVID-19 vaccination programme in the Colombo City could end in a few months’ time as the pandemic situation has eased considerably, Chief Medical Officer Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni said.

Dr. Wijayamuni said CMC is providing the fourth jab for city dwellers over 50 years of age at the moment. The vaccine is provided in CMC Medical Centres including District office B District office 4 and a few other centres. “We encourage those over 50 years of age to come and get the fourth jab,” he said,

The high cost and shortage of food which is expected to hit Colombo and Sri Lanka as a whole could cause protein deficiency diseases, a public health expert said yesterday.

Some of the major diseases caused by protein deficiency are Kwashiorkor and Marasmus syndromes.
“We are currently working with UNICEF and other world bodies involved in food and nutrition to reduce the effects of food shortages. We are mainly focusing on children and pregnant mothers,” Dr. Wijayamuni said.
