The COVID-19 virus is currently under control in the country, but stringent health measures taken to control the transmission of the virus from person to person should be continued, Environment Ministry Secretary Anil Jasinghe said.
He made these remarks while addressing a briefing at the Environment Ministry on the procedures to be followed for the prevention of the COVID-19 virus.
The government has instructed every institution to seek the services of a health officer for COVID suppression, Dr. Jasinghe said.
“At the same time, patients are still being reported in New York City. And in the UK, about 100,000 patients are reported daily. We faced a lot of difficulties in the past due to the COVID-19 pandemic . Our country, our people, and our institutions faced great difficulties.
We were able to act early and minimize the harm caused to foreign exchange earning institutions such as the Board of Investment as well as institutions involved in the exporting sector, “ he said.
“The Omicron virus currently spreading worldwide, is less effective than other COVID strains. At present, there is some control over the COVID-19 pandemic in our country. Even if a certain number of patients are reported, the reduction in mortality is a good thing. The reason is that the effect of the virus gradually diminishes, “ he said.
Therefore, personal distance should be maintained. Wearing of face masks, using sanitizers, and washing and cleaning hands should be practiced as a tactic to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
