COVID-19 treatment centres National Patriotic Front urges the President to include Ayurvedic hospitals

They also request to place quarantine centres under these hospitals

Deshapremi Jathika Peramuna (National Patriotic Front), a newly established political party requested President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday to declare the Ayurvedic hospitals as COVID treatment centres and to place quarantine centres under such hospitals.

The letter which was signed by the party’s chairman Nuwan Ballantudawa and Secretary Priyantha Dayaratne said failure to name ayurvedic hospitals as COVID-19 treatment centres and placing quarantine centres under them is a crime similar to failure in taking action to prevent the Easter bomb attacks despite receiving prior warnings. “This is because the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Act of 1897 provides legal provisions for the Director General of Health Services to declare ayurvedic hospitals as COVID-19 treatment centres and to place quarantine centres under them. However the government seems to show the people that taking such action is as difficult as rocket science. Also the indigenous medical practitioners have been recognised as professionals as per the Ayurvedic Act No 31 of 1961. This Act also stipulates that indigenous medical practitioners do not come under legislations which regulates Western Medical Practitioners. Therefore regulating them under Western medical regulations is illegal,” the letter said.

“We feel that the government is deliberately trying to push the country into a crisis at a time where there is no treatment for COVID-19 in Western medicine other than prescribing Vitamin C and Panadol,” the letter added.
Deshapremi Jathika Peramuna reminded the President that page 25 of his manifesto states that Ayurvedic medicine will be given more recognition and relevant legislations will be introduced in this regard.
The letter further said that imposing travel restrictions are no longer practical as it affects the country’s economy and day to day lives of the people.
