Sri Lanka’s COVID 19 vaccine programme could run into trouble when it comes to providing third jabs or booster injections as the program was started late. SJB Chairman Filed Marshal Sarath Fonseka said yesterday.
Field Marshal Fonseka told a press conference that Sri Lanka’s vaccine programme began late though it is being carried out efficiently. “Sri Lankan government commenced its vaccination drive rather late compared to other countries. Some countries such as the US and Italy had managed to contain the pandemic after being in a helpless position. However Sri Lanka has not achieved the same even though its population is low in comparision the US and Italy. Sri Lanka’s late start of the vaccine programme may become a hindrance for the containment of the disease. There may be many other cases and deaths by the time Sri Lanka goes in for a third jab or booster injections,” Fonseka said.
