The Power and Energy Ministry has taken many decisions to maintain the quality of fuel distribution.
Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has taken many steps to rectify the issues.
Accordingly, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has commenced random checks on fuel quality in all fuel stations islandwide following complaints received by the ministry. “There have been complaints over fuel quality and fuel stations mixing petroleum products with water, kerosene, and other liquids,” the Minister said.
He also said the filling stations license would be immediately cancelled if found violating guidelines.
Meanwhile, the Minister said an average of 4,000 MT of auto diesel and 2,500 MT of 92 octane petrol is released daily.He said more 92 octane petrol will be released. However, a limited stock of Auto Diesel will be released until the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant (NCPP) is restored, Minister Wijesekera said.Furthermore, he said another 40,000 MT of Petrol and Crude Oil is due to be unloaded yesterday (8).
Moreover, the Minister said that messages circulating on the social media regarding a price increase by Lanka IOC fuel is completely false. He said there is no price increase by Lanka IOC or Ceypetco. The ministry will take legal action against those who have posted and shared fake and false news to mislead the public.
