Cabinet proposal permitting import of electric vehicles - Manusha

By Chaturanga Samarawickrama

A cabinet proposal is to be presented requesting permission to import electric vehicles by migrant workers who send money to Sri Lanka through legal channels, Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said.   He said the facility will be granted for migrant workers based on the amount of money they send to the country.

The facility will be granted for migrant workers based on the amount of money they send to the country.

As vehicle importation is banned at present, the license to import these electric vehicles will be issued only to migrant workers who send money legally through the banking system.   He said while participating in a programme to provide employment opportunities implemented by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), a new charging system will be introduced for those electric vehicles to re-charge them with solar energy outside the main power system.
