Cabinet reshuffle by end January



  • Twelve new ministers to be appointed from UNP, SLPP and SJB

The government has planned to effect the reshuffling of the cabinet of ministers and appointing governors to six provinces by the end of January, political party sources said.

Twelve new ministers to the cabinet would be appointed from the UNP, SLPP and SJB, according to sources. Ten positions have been allotted for the SLPP and one ministerial post each to UNP MP Wajira Abeywardena and an SJB senior member.


As per the agreement reached between the President and the Prime Minister, six new governors would be appointed to provinces. The UNP has given to nominate governors for the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western Provinces and the SLPP is to nominate governors to the Southern, Wayamba and Eastern provinces, as per the agreement.
Among the changes to be effected are the ministries of Sports, Highways, Transport, Wildlife, Health, Ports, Industries, Energy and Environment, according to the sources.
