 The proposal submitted to the cabinet seeking approval with regard to promotions of police officers who have not been promoted for a long time will be studied by a cabinet subcommittee prior to the approval, Public Security Minister Tiran Alles said.

 The Public Security Ministry said last month that minister Alles had submitted a proposal to the cabinet seeking approval to promote 8,312 policemen and 1,105 policewomen including sergeants and constables who have completed their service periods as of February 8, 2020. 

 According to the proposal, four Inspectors of the Special Task Force of Police (STF) who have completed 10 years of service, 290 Sub Inspectors including 54 from the STF, 1,630 police sergeants (122 from STF), 621 women police sergeants, 6,243 policemen, 484 policewomen, 15 police sergeant drivers and 130 police (constables) drivers have been found eligible to be promoted to the next rank.

 It is reported that the service period of many police officers exceeds 30 years and the service period of the current position exceeds 15 years, and a large number of officers seeking promotion are about to retire.

 Sources said that many officers concerned that approval for the proposal were further delayed due to a political influence to include several other police officers’ names, who have not completed the required service period, in the list.

 However, the Public Security Minister told the Daily Mirror that the paper has already been submitted to the cabinet and was delayed due to certain issues, but the cabinet subcommittee will study the proposal next week.
