Cabraal seeks CB Governor’s post with Cabinet status

State Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal is reported to have sought the Governor post of the Central Bank with Cabinet status similar to countries such as China, Singapore and Vietnam, Daily Mirror learns.   

He is tipped to be appointed Governor shortly. Daily Mirror learns that he had sought the post with authority similar to that of a Cabinet Minister in terms of protocols to enter into negotiations and take decisions in the money and capital markets, unhindered.   He had served as the Governor until 2015 during the term of then President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He now serves as the State Minister of Money, Capital Markets and Public Enterprise Reforms. He is expected to resign  soon, it is learnt
