Case against Fmr. Minister Basil Rajapaksa - Misappropriating state funds Trial fixed for October 14 and November



The suspects were not present when the case was called yesterday in the Gampaha High Court

The trial in the case against former Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Tirukumaran Nadesan on the charge of misappropriating state funds to purchase a 16 acre land at Malwana in Dompe and constructing a house and a swimming pool was yesterday fixed for October 14 and November by High Court Judge Nimal Ranaweera. 

The suspects were not present in court when the case was called yesterday in the Gampaha High Court. The lawyers appearing for them informed court that former Minister Basil Rajapaksa was under quarantine after his arrival to the country and that the other suspect Thirukumaran Nadesan was not well.   


The judge issued notice on the two suspects to appear in court on October 14 and the lawyers promised to produced them.   


 President’ s Counsel D.A.P. Weeratne with Attorneys-at-Law Wijesiri Ambagahawatta, Premachandra Epa, Tissa Gunawardene, Udara Wijesinghe, appeared for former Minister Basil Rajapaksa.   


Deputy Solicitor General Sunil Kularatne with State Counsel Oswald Perera made submissions for the state.
