• The Principal has been admitted to Anuradhapura Hospital

President of the Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) Priyantha Fernando was taken into custody in connection with the alleged assault on the Principal of Pothanegama Maha Vidyalaya Ruwan Siri Herath.   

Police said the union leader was arrested during investigations of the principal’s complaint. The Principal has been admitted to Anuradhapura Hospital.   

Meanwhile, the suspect had made a lengthy statement to Anuradhapura Police regarding the incident. Investigations revealed that a conflict regarding teacher transfers at a meeting in the Provincial Education Department had led to the alleged assault.  The suspect was to be produced in court yesterday.
