Ceylon Workers’ Congress has decided to support the no-confidence motion moved by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya against the government.

Chairman of the CWC, Nuwara Eliya District Parliamentarian Marudapandi Rameshwaran told the media yesterday that they defected in view of the hardships facing the estate sector people due to the spiralling cost of living, the shortage and the increasing prices of gas and fuel and the constant power cuts.

He said at first the CWC had not taken a decision regarding the SJB’s no-confidence motion, but now they were hopeful that the no-confidence motion would receive wider support in view of the escalating public protests against the government.

CWC Chairman said the decision to vote in favour of the no-confidence motion was taken at a meeting of the party stalwarts held under the chairmanship of General Secretary Jeewan Thondaman.
