Champika challenges Govt. on Yugadanavi Power Plant deal

  • See whether it is possible to get Parliament approval through a secret ballot for the deal

SJB MP Patali Champika Ranawaka yesterday threw a challenge at the government calling the latter to obtain approval of Parliament for the Yugadanavi Power Plant deal, through a secret ballot.

" See whether it is possible to get Parliament approval through a secret ballot for the deal," he said at a press conference last morning.

" The US company will be able to earn a profit exceeding dollars 300 million annually by a one-off investment," he added. Also, he said there was a scam exceeding Rs eight billion pertaining to the proposed deal to import Nano Uria. " The real cost of  a litre if Nano Uria costs only US Dollars eight but the Sri Lankan Government was to purchase a litre at dollars 25. Therefore the value of the scam is Rs eight billion," he said.
