Champika puts forward four-point proposal

  • Calls for removing President Rajapaksa from the office of the President
  • Parliament should be given the opportunity to appoint a new President within 24 hours after President Gotabaya leaves office

Former Minister MP Patali Champika Ranawaka put forward a four-point proposal that should be implemented next week itself in order to rescue the country from what he called ‘the horrendous crisis’ .

Effective adoption of the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution by reaching a broad alliance and a single platform, and the establishment of an All-Party Interim Government involving all parties/independently functioning groups in Parliament, other than the Rajapaksas are main among them.

He proposes placing before the people the economic and political agenda that constitutes the common minimum programme to be implemented by the All-Party Interim Government in order to contain and recover from the crisis while appointing accepted professionals as heads of important institutions.
