• Govt. decided to reintroduce the chemical fertilizer subsidy starting from the current Yala season

Taking a step back further in the face of protest by farmers , the government decided yesterday to reintroduce chemical fertilizer subsidy starting from the current Yala season, Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said.

The government scrapped it last year to replace chemical farming with organic farming. It led to a drop in the rice harvests in the country.

The Minister told Daily Mirror that the chemical farming subsidy would be given for farmers once again.
