China, Russia also interested in taking over Sri Lankan airports: Minister



  • Japan interested in assisting with construction of second terminal at BIA

Investors from China and Russia are also interested in  taking over Sri Lankan Airports, Minister of Ports, Shipping and  Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva said yesterday.   


The minister came out with this information when the media  questioned the reports which said Adani Group India is to take over  airports in Sri Lanka.   


“We will have to resolve issues confronting the national  carrier and the operations of the Bandaranaike International Airport  first,” he said. 

Also, the Minister said Japan is waiting to assist Sri Lanka  to construct the second Terminal at Bandaranaike International Airport  as soon as the restructuring of the national carrier SriLankan Airlines  is completed. “We hope to start implementing the construction of the  second terminal by the end of the year,” he said.
