Chinese employees working at ‘Tissa wewa’ not People’s Liberation Army

The Embassy of China in Sri Lanka has affirmed that employees engaged in the ongoing project to remove silt in the ‘Tissa wewa’ tank in Tissamaharamaya, are not members of the People’s Liberation Army and it is the respective overseas company’s overall uniform entitled to the staffers, the Defence Ministry said.  

 The Embassy has affirmed it following a query made by Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd). 
The Defence Secretary has informed the Embassy to educate the respective contractors to refrain from deploying employees wearing the controversial military style camouflage uniforms in future and has also informed the local private company to avoid the recurrence of such actions henceforth.  


He has directed the Southern Province Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police to thwart any further attempt of such nature.  


 The ongoing project to remove silt in the ‘Tissa wewa’ tank in Tissamaharamaya, run by a private company, manning Chinese employees who were reportedly seen wearing controversial military style camouflage uniforms has been highlighted in the media.
