The passengers are advised to raise complaints to the National Transport Commission (NTC) about the issues they face in private buses while travelling.

When questioned by the NTC Director General, Nilan Miranda, regarding not issuing bus tickets and charging excessive amounts than the original bus fare, he said facilities were introduced by the commission to safeguard the passengers.

He said the inter-provincial and provincial bus fare revision rates should be displayed inside all buses where passengers can see them clearly. “Tickets should be issued as per paid fare only, and the relevant balance amount should be returned to the commuter,” he said.

Any malpractices, such as not issuing tickets, overcharging, non returning of balance etc., while on board the bus, can be brought to the attention of the NTC.

The NTC Chairman requests the passengers to make their complaints through the toll-free number 1955, that is operational all 24-hours.

“As soon as the complaint is made, a reference number will be sent to your mobile phone. People can use the WhatsApp number 071 2 595 555 to submit photos, audio and video clips, relevant bus number or an image of the bus ticket,” the Chairman said.
