The controversial Chinese research ship Yuan Chang 5, which was docked at the Hambantota Harbour on August 16, left the harbour last evening, after a week-long stay, Port official said.

The ship’s next destination was not immediately known.   

At the ship’s welcoming ceremony ‘Yuan Wang 5’ Captain said that ship’s visit would deepen the exchange between China and Sri Lanka in the field of space science and technology.  

The arrival of the ship to Sri Lanka was delayed following India and US opposition.
