A restraining order on the commemoration of the deceased LTTE cadres was issued on Thursday (18) by Vavuniya Magistrate M. S. Samroon.
The commemorations were to be held for ten days from November 20 to 29. Police that sought a restraining order told the court that the proposed commemoration of the deceased LTTE cadres would disturb communal harmony. The magistrate who upheld the submissions issued a restraining order on the proposed commemoration of the deceased LTTE cadres in the Vavuniya Police divisions.
The restraining order had been issued on former TNA Parliamentarian Shivashakthi Anandan, President of the Organisation for the Disappeared in War, K. Jayawanitha, Secretary of the organisation Gopal Krishnan Rajkumar, Former Provincial Council Member P.Sathyalingam, Members of the Organisation for The Disappeared Gajan Gajendran, Selvanayagam Aravindan, and Subramaniyam Thavabalasingham.
Meanwhile, Mullaitivu Magistrate had issued a similar restraining order on the commemoration of LTTE cadres in seven police areas in the Mullaitivu Police division.
