State Minister Diana Gamage’s request seeking an enjoining order preventing Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa from functioning as the leader of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and Ranjith Madduma Bandara as the SJB General Secretary was yesterday rejected by the Colombo District Court.

Colombo District Court judge Sandun Vithana made this order taking into consideration a plaint filed by State Minister Diana Gamage. The State Minister sought an order and declaration that the Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and Ranjith Madduma Bandara have no legal basis to function as the SJB leader and SJB General Secretary respectively.

The parties were directed to file their answers before February 12 next year. In her plaint, Diana Gamage alleged that both Premadasa and Madduma Bandara are holding the positions in the SJB while being the members of United National Party, contrary to the party constitution.
