A total of nearly 6,000 COVID-19 infections have been reported within seven days showcasing the higher transmissibility of the Omicron variant which is spreading across the country.
According to statistics of the Health Promotion Bureau (HPB), 829, 827, 840, 845, 838, 877, 891 active cases have been reported since last Wednesday (19) accumulating 5,947 cases.
Although the number of COVID cases is on the rise, the number of COVID fatalities remains at a low level.
The highest number of daily cases as 891 was reported on Tuesday (25) after two weeks.
Accordingly, the total confirmed cases in Sri Lanka stands at 603,654 of which 576,540 patients have recovered from the virus. Meanwhile, a total of around 7,500 PCR tests and 5,500 RATs are conducted daily.
