• Heads of households urged to be vigilant when employing day helpers

State Minister of Child and Women’s Affairs, Geetha Kumarasinghe, has raised an alarm for heads of households, urging increased vigilance when employing day helpers for domestic work because what she said a disturbing trend where criminals exploit such positions to carry out illicit activities, particularly house robberies and other crimes.  

According to Kumarasinghe, there is evidence suggesting that some day helpers are directly affiliated with criminal networks, utilizing their positions to gain access to homes and pilfer cash and valuables. 

She emphasized that this alarming occurrence has become prevalent in various parts of the country.  
The State Minister expressed support for the ongoing Yukthiya operation conducted by the Ministry of Public Security. She believes that if the operation is successful in targeting and apprehending criminals involved in household robberies, it could serve as a crucial deterrent to such crimes. The Yukthiya operation is anticipated to play a pivotal role in curbing a range of criminal activities, providing a sense of security for households.  
“We hope that Yukthiya operations will put a stop to all kinds of crimes that are taking place,” Kumarasinghe said.
