Daily Covid-19 cases that crossed 2,500 have now averaged at 2,200 cases, but the health authorities cannot be complacent about the situation, an official said yesterday.

Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath told a press conference organised by the Health Promotion Bureau that the health sector should bring the daily cases down further somehow to manage the situation. Therefore, he said the guard against Covid-19 should not be lowered no matter what.

He said though 21 Covid-19 deaths were announced on Sunday, they were cases reported in the span of a few days.

There were 21,402 hospital beds dedicated for patients, and 19,354 of them remained occupied on Sunday.
