The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested seven Police Narcotics Bureau officers in connection with the death of an Assistant Manager of Narahenpita Vocational Training Authority (VTA) while in the custody of the PNB.
The Assistant Manager has died due to gunshot wounds after being admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo following an incident with the police on January 10, this year.
Police said the 41-year-old suspect was arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau with nearly 15 grams of heroin in the Narahenpita area.
It was earlier reported that the suspect, a resident of Hikkaduwa, was shot by police following an escape attempt in Maradana.
The CID has launched an investigation into the incident.
The Maligakanda Magistrate Court also ordered to arrest the officers involved in this incident and produce them to court.
Accordingly 7 police officers including a sub-inspector of the Police Narcotics Bureau have been arrested over the death of the suspect.
