State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana said a sub-lineage of Delta variant of SARS-CoV- 2 is spreading among school children and youths in Sri Lanka.

Making his remarks to the media, the Minister said people should be alert in this regard. He said fully vaccinated people only get mild symptoms such as cold, fever and muscle pain when they are down with COVID-19.
“The climate is a bit cold these days. If somebody catches a cold with fever, it can possibly be COVID-19. Fully vaccinated people develop only mild symptoms of COVID-19.  Therefore, they intend to ignore it, perceiving it as normal fever.    If you have any such mild systems, it will be better to get at least a rapid antigen test done. You may not have any serious problems. Still, the disease can spread from you to another,” he said.

He said mass inoculation drive is successfully in progress with 90 per cent of those above 20 being jabbed.
