State Minister Diana Gamage should follow her colleague Geetha Kumarasinghe and give up her dual citizenship if she has such status, Samagi Jana Balawegaya ( SJB) MP Thalatha Athukorala’ told Parliament yesterday.

“The state minister should give up dual citizenship if she has such a status like her colleague Geeatha Kumarasinghe if she wants to work for the nation,” she said responding to journalists at a media briefing.

“However it is the judiciary that should decide whether Diana should remain in Parliament or not. She became an MP before the prevention of persons with dual citizenship from contesting elections was removed by the 20th Amendment. Let the judiciary make the final decision,” she said.

“We welcome this clause which was included in the 21st Amendment and also making the constitution council independent. However we prefer a whole new constitution which would rectify all shortcomings in the present constitution,” he added.
