The matter with regard to making the vaccination card mandatory when entering public places is being discussed by relevant stakeholders, the Health Ministry said.

Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath told the media yesterday that it is vital to see how this could be implemented on practical grounds. “This is not a decision that can be taken overnight. There are various factors to be taken into account before arriving at a final decision,” he underlined. “The factors like legal possibilities, how it can be implemented practically and the right of the people, have to be considered in-depth,” he explained.  Dr. Herath said if these factors were properly addressed and looked into, the relevant decision would be made in the future.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella yesterday opined that the government would have to implement certain actions against unvaccinated people in the future.
