• Driver and four passengers in the cab were under the influence of liquor

A five-year-old girl died and two others were seriously injured when a double cab veered off the road and crashed into a house by the roadside at Mangalapura in Wanathavilluwa on Puttalam- Mannar old road. 

 Investigations revealed that the five-year-old girl Methsarani Kavisha was playing in front of the house and when she was knocked down by the double cab. 

A 20-year-old young man and a 32-year-old woman standing in the house compound were injured and admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. 

Police said the driver had lost control of the double cab transporting the workers of a private water supply project due to excessive speed.
