Drunk State Minister shoots in the air

A State Minister from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) had reportedly fired in the air with his official pistol in the balcony of the Madiwela MP’s official residence, police sources said.  

They said several gunshots were heard by people in the area last night.  

The MP who had drunkenly come to the balcony of the house had fired three shots towards the sky, sources said.  

It is also reported that the same State Minister, along with a group of friends, all of whom were under the influence of liquor, had been highlighted in society for several controversial incidents in the past, such as entering the Welikada Prison by force to visit the prison and gallows.  

Police sources further said that intelligence units have informed the higher officials to conduct investigations into the shooting.  

However, there were no complaints lodged with the Mirihana Police over the incident.
