Dullas Alahapperuma says he would contest for presidency



  • PM Ranil Wickremesinghe will also participate in the ballot
  • Political discussions are now underway among the parties that support them 
  • This is the first time Sri Lanka elects its President through a secret ballot

SLPP MP Dullas Alahapperuma said in a statement that he would contest for presidency in the secret ballot to be taken up on July 20. In the meantime, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who is now the acting president will also participate in the ballot.


Political discussions are now underway among the parties that support them to muster the required number to secure presidency. This is the first time Sri Lanka elects its President through a secret ballot.
