Duplicate Paththirippuwa being demolished

• The President had instructed the IGP to look into the complaint made by the Mahanayaka Theras of the Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters regarding the matter

Steps have been taken to demolish the  duplicate“ Paththirippuwa,” the octagonal upper structure of the controversial replica of Sri Dalada Maligawa at Wadakada in Potuhera.   

The owner of the building Janaka Chandra Senadhipathi said President Ranil Wickremesinghe had instructed the IGP to look into the complaint made by the Mahanayaka Theras of the Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters regarding the matter.   

Meanwhile, former Minister Mervyn Silva who visited the scene on Saturday (07) had warned the owner to demolish the Octagonal structure, a duplicate of the Paththirippuwa in Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy or else he would visit the scene in a couple of weeks, and demolish it.   

Senadhipathi said steps were taken to demolish the structure last morning.
