Easter Sunday attacks Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith to hold prayer service in the Vatican

Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith who is currently in the Vatican is to hold a prayer service at St Peter’s Square on Sunday,  Convener of Global Forum of Easter Sunday Massacre Victims, Stephen Muller said yesterday.  

“The objective of the prayer service will be to seek divine intervention to uncover the truth behind the Easter Sunday attacks,” Mr. Muller said in a statement which was aired via social media yesterday.   

 

Meanwhile the Catholic Bishops’ Conference Sri Lanka (CBCSL) said there is no option left other than to seek international assistance to help mete out justice to the victims.  
“The CBCSL is appalled at the failure on the part of the Government and the Attorney General’s Department to move to implement the recommendations made by the Commission of inquiry into the Easter Sunday bomb attack. As there seems to be not only a delay but a hide the truth, to exploit the massacre for political gain and also to complicate the issues, we see no option other than to seek international assistance to help mete out justice to the victims,” a statement from the Bishops’ Conference said.  


In another development former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in a statement called for the appointment of an independent committee to inquire into the disclosures made by former CID Director Shani Abeysekera that there were connections between some intelligence personnel and the Easter Sunday attackers. “It is essential to appoint an independent committee acceptable to all parties to carry out a fresh probe on the new information that has been disclosed,” he said.
