A video clip of Zahran Hashim who led the Easter Sunday attack had revealed that the attack was launched in retaliation for the attack on the mosque in New Zealand, former Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekera told Parliament yesterday.  

“In this clip Zahran says that he had planned to attack Catholic churches on behalf of Allah. He said the hotels in Colombo will be attacked to destroy the Christian tourists from the West. He says these Westerners should not be allowed to escape. In addition he says accepting money from non-Muslims is Haram,” the former Minister said.  
“This video clip confirms that there is no political conspiracy behind the Easter Sunday attacks,” he added.  
He challenged the opposition to prove that former President Maithripala Sirisena is responsible for the attack. “These opposition members should prove that the former President is responsible for the attack by filing a court case. If not they should keep their mouths shut,” he said.
