Economic crisis in Sri Lanka has got worse: Ruwan

By Yohan Perera

The economic crisis in Sri Lanka has got worse while the government has fallen out with both China and India, UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene said.

Mr. Wijewardene made this remark at a meeting he had with party activists yesterday.

“We have heard reports that the Minister of Finance had not got any assistance from India though he made a recent visit to the subcontinent. This is why our leader inquired about the Finance Minister’s visit to India in Parliament recently. China on the other hand had cancelled investment projects they were to start in Northern Sri Lanka and shifted them to the Maldives. This government has fallen out with China and India. How can Sri Lanka move along in such a situation?” he questioned.

“The exchange rate crisis is also dragging on,” he added.

“No country in the world tries to function on its own. Isolation from the world will not help a nation. Technological development has forced all nations together. This is the reality. One cannot blame the COVID-19 pandemic for the downfall.
