Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said the current economic crisis has been messed up and has turned into a political crisis.
Wickremesinghe who was speaking to WON TV India said the economic crisis has been messed up by bureaucratic arms of the government going on different directions. “Institutions such as Central Bank goes in one direction while other institutions are going in another direction,” he said. He warned that the country’s banking sector is at risk as well. Also, he said the Indian Credit line will save the country only for few weeks. “A shipment of oil is already on Sri Lankan soil but prices may double. I would say the Indian Credit line will help Sri Lanka for five to six weeks maximum,” he said. Wickremesinghe called for a safety net to safeguard social welfare.
