Eight ex-LTTE cadres get Presidential pardon

Eight ex-LTTE cadres who were convicted by courts over unlawful activities were granted Presidential pardon, the Prisons Department said.   


Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said this special amnesty had been granted in accordance with powers vested in the President by Article 34 of the Constitution.   

Accordingly, four LTTE cadres detained in the Magazine Prison were released on Friday (21).   


The spokesman said two LTTE cadres are to be released after withdrawing pending cases in the Court of Appeal.   


Also, the other two cadres are to be released after completion of the rehabilitation process. He said it was referred to the Attorney General and will act on the AG’s instructions.
