Gampaha High Court Judge Mapa Bandara yesterday ordered the Superintendents of Welikada and Mahara Prisons to release the former CID Director Shani Abeysekara and former SI of Embilipitiya Police Sugath Mohana Mendis who had been on remand on suspicion of fabricating evidence in a case against former Senior DIG Vaas Gunawardene.

Colombo High Court Judges Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and Ratnapriya Gurusinghe had on Wednesday (16) allowed the release of the two suspects each on cash bail of Rs.25,000 and personal bail in Rs.1 million with two sureties. They had been ordered to surrender their passports to Gampaha High Court.
