Excessive cloud gathering had increased the intensity of rains which Sri Lanka is experiencing currently, Department of Meteorology said yesterday.
“Gathering of clouds in the inter-monsoon period is high and the intensity of rains is enhanced as a result. This is why we see roads getting flooded for short spells of rain these days,” duty forecaster of the Department of Meteorology said.
“Also, there is a tendency of clouds getting scattered at the same time. More rains are experienced where there is increased gathering of clouds, and showers are lighter when clouds are shattered. For example, this is why sometimes you experience heavy showers in around Colombo Town Hall and light showers in Borella,” she added.
The intensity of rains is expected to decline by mid-December 2023 according to the Meteorological Department.
