A recent survey had revealed that 2,589 expectant mothers in the Anuradhapura were living below the poverty line and often starved for want of a square meal and that they have not received their quota of Thriposha issued by the Department of Health since long.
They said they often depended on balance food of alms offered to the Buddhist monks by the devotees and the package of dry ration issued to them by the Divisional Secretaries once a week.
This was revealed during the meeting of the Food Security and Nutrition Committee in the North Central Province held at the Provincial Council auditorium under the Chairmanship of Governor Maheepala Herath.
