Failure to prevent Easter Sunday attacks: Magisterial inquiry against Pujith and Hemasiri concluded

The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court yesterday concluded the magisterial inquiry against former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and former IGP Pujith Jayasundara in connection with their criminal negligence and failure to prevent the Easter Sunday Terrorist attacks. 

The Court decided to terminate the magisterial inquiry since indictments against the two former high-ranking public officials had been filed in the Colombo High Court by the Attorney General.


The High Court Trial-at-Bar had already served indictments consisting of 855 charges on former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and former IGP Pujith Jayasundara.
The Attorney General filed indictments consisting of 855 charges against the two accused. The trial is to proceed without a jury commencing from November 29. They are currently out on bail.


The two former top officials have been accused of failing to take measures to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks despite having prior knowledge of the attack.
