People in the rural areas of the Badulla District have reverted to ferry their paddy harvest using pack bulls because of the high fuel costs. 

Farmers said they did not have any alternative but to use pack bulls to transport goods to and from towns. They said the pack bull system had been the only way of transporting goods through hard terrain in the past when roads and modern transport facilities were not available.
