• Gold gel weighing five kilos valued at Rs. 100Mn

Airport security officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) arrested a female employee of the duty-free shopping complex while trying to smuggle out gold gel weighing five kilos valued at Rs. 100 million.   

 The 24-year-old woman had concealed the contraband in four parcels hidden in her person and was apprehended by the security guards who had observed her behaviour on the CCTV cameras while she was leaving the airport premises yesterday morning.   

The woman and the contraband have been handed over to the Airport Customs officials for further investigations.
