Fighting Covid-19 UNP seeks donations from China

By Yohan Perera

UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardene yesterday said leader of his party Ranil Wickremesinghe had requested for Chinese assistance to fight the COVID- 19 pandemic.

Mr. Abeywardene said this while accepting the first consignment of medical equipment from China in response to the request made by Mr. Wickremesinghe at the Chinese Embassy in Colombo.

“We will distribute the equipment to hospitals shortly,” Mr. Abeywardene said while stressing the need for the UNP to maintain a sound relationship with China.

The former Minister also stressed the need to build up successful Sri Lankan entrepreneurs. “Sri Lanka needs entrepreneurs who have the ability to construct ports and airports. We need entrepreneurs such as late Upali Wijewardene who were able to purchase estates in Malaysia,” he added.
