Five girls, below the age of consent, become victims of rape or statutory rape within two days in Anuradhapura

Five girls, below the age of consent, became victims of  statutory rape, during the last two days in the Anuradhapura District,  an official said.   


A senior official of the Anuradhapura Police division said the rape  of five underage girls had been reported from the division for the last  two days.   


He said a 14-year-old girl in the Galadivulwewa Police area  had been raped by her 25-year-old lover and, a 16-year-old school girl  in Parasangaswewa Police area by her father’s brother and a 50-year-old  mason. Police said the latter had fled from the area.   

The abduction of a 15-year-old schoolgirl by her 17-year-old  lover had been reported from in Thambuttegama Police area, while a 16-year-old schoolgirl of Thirappane area had been raped by a 24-year-old man employed in the National Water Supply and Drainage Board.   


Meanwhile, Thambutttegama Police have initiated  investigations to arrest the principal of a school and two others who  raped a 14-year-old schoolgirl.   


The suspects already in custody in connection with four incidents were to be produced in court. 

 
Women and Children’s Bureaus of Galadivulwewa,  Parasangaswewa, Thambuttegama, Thirappane and Panwila Police areas are  conducting further investigations.
