The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) warned of flash floods in the coming days as
Attanagalu Oya , Kalu, Kelani, Gin and Nilwala river basins are already saturated with water while water levels are still rising.

Considering the situation, the general public living in flood prone areas above river basins were requested to be vigilant in that regard. It is requested to take special care when using those rivers.

Warnings were issued against riding boats, bathing and crossing rivers, tributaries and streams.
The Department of Meteorology warned of increased swell waves about 2.5 – 3.0 m in the above sea areas in the coming days due to active Southwest Monsoon conditions.

Therefore, it was advised not to venture into fishing and naval activities in the areas  off the coast extending from Puttalam  to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and  Hambantota .

Winds in the said areas were expected to be rough with the speed around 50kmph.

Meanwhile the Badulla District Disaster Management Centre (DMC) office has warned the people living in those danger zones to be cautious of imminent earth slips in view of the prevailing heavy rain.

Asst. Director  DMC E.M. L.Udayakumara said several areas in the district were prone to earth slips.
He requested the people living in the above stated areas to immediately leave for safer locations if they noticed signs of earth slips and to follow the instructions given in the disaster management rehearsals
