Flood threat at P’ment complex lessens

By Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana

The flood threat in Parliament lessened as of yesterday, as the water level in Diyawanna Oya is receding, Serjeant-at Arms Narendra Fernando said yesterday.

“We had to take precautions as the water level of the Diyawanna Oya was increasing but the risk has reduced as of now,” he said.

Earlier it was reported that sandbags were stacked right round the Parliament premises while all valuable goods and documents that were on the ground floor were taken to the first floor.

The ground floor of the Parliament building went under water in 1992 and in 2010.
